The environmental state of our rivers has become a national scandal. While sewage discharges tend to dominate the headlines, the biggest polluter of freshwater in the UK and worldwide is agriculture. For example, the slurry run off from intensive dairy and poultry production has become the prime cause for the recent ecological collapse some of major river systems, such as that of the Wye.

There exist however a range of intriguing circular economy solutions to this crisis. For example, polluting animal waste could be processed and recycled to substitute the chemically manufactured fertilisers – the production and application of which is one of the planet’s biggest emitters of greenhouse gases.

On November 13th leaders from across the environmental movement, politics, agriculture, environmental regulation and climate finance will be convening at the Conduit Club to discuss these opportunities and how to overcome the challenges that hinder their implementation. In addition, a number of entrepreneurs whose businesses are at the leading edge the technologies capable of facilitating these much-needed developments (many of whom are backed by The Conduit Connect) will be joining the discussion.

Whether you are a wild swimmer, an angler, an early-stage green tech funder - or just one of the many of us who care passionately about our rivers or the state of nature generally, please join us for what will be a fascinating discussion.
